Empowered Girls of North Carolina – Who are we?

Empowered Girls of North Carolina is a nonprofit organization whose mission is “enhancing the quality of girls’ lives by providing programming that builds integrity, respect and self-worth”

In January 2014 EGNC was launched, having formerly been Girls Incorporated of Guilford County. We are a more holistic program including programming in STEM, leadership, finance, healthy living, healthy relationships, self-esteem and creative expression, we also offer one on one mentoring.

Empowered Girls of North Carolina provides programs that will enable girls to develop into self-reliant, responsible and successful young women.

We offer monthly community workshops for girls, school workshops as well as a monthly “Girls’ Night Out” event.

We have received funding for our after-school literacy program for second through fifth grade students which will be held Monday through Thursday from 3:00 – 5:30 pm, at The Creative Center. During these hours, students will work with volunteers to increase their reading and comprehension skills.

Now, more than ever before, growing up is serious business for girls and young women. Girls must learn to make intelligent, educated decisions about issues such as drug use, healthy lifestyles, education and careers. They must develop math, technology and science skills to expand their career options, and develop habits that enhance their lives. Learning to set small goals at 12 creates the habits that girls need to become the successful young women of the future.

Help us to serve more girls. Our fundraising goal for the 2015-2016 school year and camp programs is $30,000.

Visual Spirituality

Visual Spirituality

Early on in a career in education, I learned of the many ways people learn. Some are auditory learners, others visual. Some can read and understand, others need to use their hands. The trick as a good teacher is to not pick one, but try to use as many as possible. A subject comes alive and is more deeply understood when experienced from a variety of perspectives.

Our up-coming art show, Visual Spirituality, is an experiment in just that kind of learning. Artists were asked to take a passage of scripture, a favorite quotation or story, or major spiritual theme and express it visually. The result is a show full of theological statements that fascinate as well as inspire. Through words and images, subjects come alive and can be more deeply understood.

Please come see the show, and join us for our opening reception on March 6th, 6:00 - 8:00 PM. The show will be up through Easter. If you cannot make the opening reception, be sure to stop by while it's up. You will be fed, inside and out.
