First Annual Hang-up Show: Call for artists of all levels

Will look something like this.

Get Your Creative Hang Up on!  Greensboro and Guilford County are swarming with wannabe, blooming, and accomplished artists! The Creative Center Hang-Up Show is a golden opportunity for everyone to show their work in a non-juried open-to-all gallery situation for three days.

This is not just a chance to exhibit and sell, but instead a meet-and-greet occasion for people to make new contacts and renew former connections. Tell your friends to bring their work, or just come see what’s up!

$5 fee for each entry.  Register at the door, or follow this link to download our 2 part-art form. Print, complete both sides, tape one copy to the back of your piece, and bring the second copy to registration table with your $5.

  • Friday, May 2, noon to 6 pm: Artist Registration. Bring only one piece of your 2-dimensional original art (painting, photography, collage, etc.), maximum size 36” x 36”, framed or gallery-style edges, and properly wired for hanging. Creative Center personnel will provide hooks and assist with your installation.
  • Saturday, May 3, 11 am to 5 pm: The Hang-Up Show is open to the public.
  • Sunday, May 4, noon to 6 pm: Closing reception, refreshments served. Art will be sold direct from artist (or artist rep) to buyer, and show comes down.
  • Location: The Creative Center, 900 16th Street, Greensboro, NC 27405

A "House Concert" came to The Creative Center

A "House Concert" came to The Creative Center

As promised in this post, The Showcase Gallery was magically transformed from the wide open space you see above, into an inviting listening room setting. The event started with a covered dish brought by excited music lovers to share and visit with one another. Then at seven-thirty, Kris Ferris announced guitarist Drake Duffer who wowed the group of seventy-five plus people with his classical and funk guitar. (A must be seen and heard performance of the highest quality.)

After the audience had been sufficiently wowed by this young man's time on our stage, Kris introduced the Martha Bassett Trio, which consisted of Martha Bassett, Sam Frazier, and Pat Lawrence. They performed not only their own original songs but also some of Martha's, of Sam's, and by other local musicians as well  And by they time they were in full-swing, there were probably 100 people clapping, whistling and smiling.  It was an evening of magical proportions. If you missed being there, we're sorry, but do plan to attend the next performance which will be May 6th. You can learn more about that event here.

Melody Watson shared her thoughts about the evening on The Collabative's website; you can read that over here.

Music comes home to The Showcase Gallery: Martha Bassett Trio on March 29

It's hard to believe almost a year has passed since the days of "The Showcase of Original Music". Many of you will no doubt remember some of those magical nights of local open mic and featured artist entertainment presented over a 14 month span beginning in February of 2012. While it was a bittersweet departure last April, it fills us with great anticipation and pride to bring live original music back to The Showcase Gallery in The Creative Center.

On Saturday March 29, 2014, The Collabative - spearheaded by Kris Ferris and Melody Watson, former members of The Showcase team - will bring the Martha Bassett Trio to the stage to kick off a series of house concert-type events. The evening will start with food, drink and conversation and then be followed by some great music! The young, talented guitarist Drake Duffer will open with a short set, and then The Martha Bassett Trio will take the stage. The Showcase Gallery will be transformed into the "Gallery House" to create the atmosphere and ambiance of someone's living room. We hope you will attend!

While there will be many similarities between this event and those from the past, many elements are different and important to note, as well. Please be sure to read the event page here, so you'll be aware of all the pertinent details.

The Collabative would like to send its deep appreciation to Chip Bristol, Debra Stephens and the numerous residents at the center who have shown such unwavering support for our efforts and for providing a space for us to present these shows.
